The dedication of the Vietnam War Memorial in Westminster was held Sunday, April 27, 2003, commemorating the fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975. The ceremony was held at Sid Goldstein Freedom Park in Westminster.The Vietnam War Memorial project was initiated by Westminster City Councilman Frank G. Fry in 1997. A committee was formed to select a sculptor/designer to build a Vietnam War Memorial in the City of Westminster. Tuan Nguyen, a renowned sculptor/designer was unanimously chosen to sculpt the statue and design the immediate surroundings. On April 29, 2002, the site construction began.
About the Sculptor
Tuan Nguyen was born in Vietnam in 1963 to an artistic family. Tuan began sculpting at an early age. He experienced the fall of Saigon in 1975 and survived many failed escapes, but eventually made it to the Untied States in 1988. In 1997, he was commissioned to create a memorial bust for the Nicole Brown Simpson Charitable Foundation, and most recently the 15-foot monument of the Vietnam War Memorial.
